Find the pangram first
Pangrams are the most valuable words in the Bee. Each one scores its length plus a 7-point bonus, and finding one also shows you how the letters fit together. The solver puts them at the top. The remaining words are grouped by length, longest first, so it's easy to pick out the ones you've missed.

Frequently asked questions
How does the Spelling Bee solver work?+
Enter the center letter and the six letters around it. We check every word in a large public English word list (the one Words With Friends is based on) and keep the ones that are at least four letters long, use only those seven letters (repeats allowed), and include the center letter. Pangrams, which use all seven letters, are listed first.
Why does the solver show words the puzzle won't accept?+
The New York Times picks a smaller, hand-curated answer list for each puzzle and leaves out obscure words. We search the whole word list, so you'll see every valid word, including some the Bee doesn't count.
How are Spelling Bee points scored?+
A four-letter word is worth 1 point. Longer words score one point per letter. A pangram earns an extra 7 points on top of that.
